NarratorOne. What did Mia buy at the night market? Listen to Mia and her friend Josh.

ManHey Mia, did you get anything nice at the night market last night?

WomanYeah! I almost bought this pair of earrings — they were so pretty, but a bit too expensive for me.

ManWhat about that drinks stall? I thought you wanted a new bubble-tea cup.

WomanI did look at those, but I already have three at home! In the end I got a phone case instead — it's got a cartoon cat on it. I couldn't say no.

ManNice, let's see it later.

NarratorTwo. What time will the coach leave for the school trip tomorrow? Listen to Miss Chen.

WomanOK everyone, quick note about tomorrow's trip to the science museum. The coach is booked for half past seven, same as usual. Because of the roadworks near the highway, I did wonder about pushing that back — maybe to eight o'clock, or even quarter past eight to be safe. But I just checked the traffic report, and they've actually finished the roadworks early. So there's no change after all — half past seven at the main gate, please don't be late!

NarratorThree. Which sport does Ben do now? Listen to Ben talking to his classmate Ellie.

WomanBen, are you still on the basketball team? I haven't seen you at practice.

ManNo, I stopped that back in June — my knees couldn't really handle it anymore, to be honest.

WomanOh no! So did you take up swimming instead? I remember you saying you wanted to try the school pool.

ManI went twice, actually, but the water was freezing and I just couldn't get into it. My cousin plays table tennis at the community centre, so I started going with him a few weeks ago, and now I go almost every day after school.

WomanThat's brilliant, you'll have to teach me sometime.

NarratorFour. What will the weather be like on Saturday, when they go camping? Listen to Mr Wang and his daughter.

ManI checked the forecast for Saturday — it's not looking great for the camping trip. They said heavy rain all day.

WomanReally? That's annoying. Did you check again? The forecast changes so much this time of year.

ManI did, actually, just now. It's been updated — now they're saying it'll be cloudy with just a bit of rain in the afternoon, not the storm they mentioned before.

WomanOK, that's not too bad, we can still go. What about Sunday, when we're driving back?

ManSunday should be fine — sunny, apparently.

NarratorFive. Where did Lucy leave her umbrella? Listen to Lucy talking to her mother.

WomanLucy, it's raining and I can't find your yellow umbrella anywhere. Didn't you take it to school today?

Woman 2I did take it. I remember using it walking into school, so I definitely didn't leave it on the MRT this time.

WomanSo is it in your classroom, then?

Woman 2No, I checked there before I left — it wasn't behind my chair. Oh wait, I remember now — Auntie Wen picked me up after school, and it started raining right as we got to her place, so I think I left it by her front door when I ran inside.

WomanOK, I'll call her.

NarratorSix. What will Tom bring to Chloe's birthday party? Listen to Tom talking to his friend Daniel.

Man 2Tom, are you going to Chloe's party on Saturday? What are you bringing?

ManYeah, I'm going! I was going to bring drinks, but Priya already messaged the group to say she's got that covered.

Man 2Oh right, I heard someone's making a cake too.

ManThat's Mei — she does amazing chocolate cakes. So I thought I'd bring a game instead, something everyone can play at the party. I found a board game at home that's still got all its pieces.

Man 2Nice, that'll be fun after we eat.

NarratorSeven. How will Anna get to the concert on Saturday? Listen to Anna talking to her brother, Kevin.

WomanKevin, do you know the bus times for Saturday? I need to get to the concert downtown.

ManThe bus, really? Take the MRT — it's much faster, and it goes almost right to the venue.

WomanThat's true, but it gets so crowded on Saturday nights, and I don't want to be squashed for half an hour with my bag.

ManFair enough. Actually, tell you what — I'm free that evening, why don't I just drive you? I'm not doing anything else.

WomanReally? That would be great, thanks!
